Fill in the Blank No. 1

Available in the keys of Db Major & Eb Major

While listening to Classy Penguin by The Books one day, I thought to myself, "This would be so much fun to play! Why don't we have music like this for concert band?". 15 months later, I finished the piece of music that satisfied my desires.

While I was in the process of writing this piece, I had no real inspiration for the musical figures I was creating (other than the pop-style figures I was replicating) . I was just having fun! So it left me with a dilemma, what was I going to call this piece? In middle school, I had an idea to combine Madlibs with music. My initial thought was to find a way to leave music out of the score, and the ensemble had to fill in their own writing as to what they heard coming next, but that was too complicated. It needed to be simpler than that. So, combining a middle school thought to my current dilemma, I decided to let the ensemble performing the work name the work for themselves. By doing this, the ensemble can turn my work into something that is close and personal to them, or simply something they enjoy performing because they created their own inspiration for the music. Just think, if I had named this work something so horrifically cliched and corny just so I could give it a title, wouldn't you have just rather given it a title yourself? That's what I thought.
