A native of West Terre Haute, Indiana, Jack Nesser is an award-winning instrumentalist, composer, educator, and conductor. During his time in high school, he became a nationally recognized composer, winning composition contests through Heidelberg University and Appalachian State University. Jack has been a featured composer, and in some events a featured conductor, with the West Vigo High School Concert Band, West Vigo High School Choirs, Terre Haute South Vigo High School Bands, Terre Haute Children’s Choir, Indiana State University Concert Band and Wind Orchestra, Mt. Vernon High School Wind Ensemble, Terre Haute Community Band, and the Vincennes University Concert Band. He has been commissioned by the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra League and the Ivory Winds to write new works for chamber ensembles. As a multi-instrumentalist, Jack was selected to be a member of the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Indiana Bandmasters Association All-State Honors Ensemble, earning positions in the ensemble on bass clarinet, flute, and piccolo, where he served as 1st chair flute and piccolo during the years of 2023 and 2024. Jack has been employed with the Indiana State University Community School of the Arts since May of 2023 and has served as a camp counselor, private flute and composition instructor, pre-k music instructor, program intern, and summer staff lead. Jack has been studying flute for the past two years with Dr. Angela Reynolds, flute instructor at Indiana State University and principal flute of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. Jack will attend Butler University this fall to study music composition under Dr. Michael Schelle and flute/piccolo under Rebecca Arrensen.
