Eridanus
The 6th largest constellation in the night sky, Eridanus, is the cosmic river that in Greek mythology symbolized the river of Hades, or for others, real-life rivers such as the Nile.
I wanted to explore minimalist techniques in this work, and borrowing from Steve Riech's Music for 18 Musicians, I elongated a very familiar chord progression from a folk song about a river; you can take your guesses! I wanted to portray, of course, a river in this work, but I also wanted to capture all the busyness I imagine when I think about what is out there in the universe. The colors, the movement, the feeling of adventure I get when thinking about traveling through a river in space is what I wanted to feel in Eridanus. Who wouldn't want to travel through the cosmic river? Imagine all the sights you would see!
